Something that RV campers struggle with is preparing meals in their RV. Compared to your standard house or apartment kitchen, an RV kitchen is small and somewhat limited in scope. You’ll probably have all the same appliances that you do at home, but you may not have as much space. Also, who wants to spend a ton of time preparing food when they could be out exploring the great outdoors?

Here are some great tips to help make cooking easier on your RV adventures.

1. Prepare Meals to Freeze

If you have a microwave in your RV and you want to minimize cooking on the road, why not take advantage of the kitchen in your home and prepare meals in large batches? Freeze single servings in tupperware containers so that you can stas them in your RV freezer and pull them out to heat and eat as you want them.

2. Clean As You Go

One of the problems with cooking in an RV that many campers encounter is not having sufficient space for preparing food. Solve this by making sure to clean up after yourself as you go, so that you don’t have to worry about having pots and pans and cutting boards in your way. Compost food scraps and put away ingredients right after you use them so you can free up space.

3. Use Your Slow Cooker

This handy and compact appliance is perfect for RVs because it lets you prepare meals while you’re outside having adventures. Fill up the cooker in the morning with your cuts of meat, vegetables and broth or water, then set it to warm. Six to eight hours later, you’ve got a delicious hot meal that you can accompany with bread and salad. Your slow cooker can prepare chilis, soups, stews and even pasta dishes, in addition to cuts of pork, beef and chicken.

4. Cook Outside

If it’s too hot to cook indoors, take your meal prep outdoors instead! Bring a small portable grill along with you or carry the supplies for cooking over a campfire. You can prepare lots of meats this way, making grilled burgers and hot dogs a perennial favorite.

5. Prepare Cold Meals

There are plenty of meals you can prepare that don’t require you to ever turn on a stove or light up the grill. Make pasta salad with leftover noodles and fresh vegetables tossed with mayonnaise and spices. Create a sandwich buffet with chips and pickles and meats, cheeses, condiments and pre-cut vegetables for your whole crew to assemble their own sandwich. Serve yogurt and granola parfaits for breakfast with fresh fruit on top.
